NGO Establishes Community Social Insurance Program.


The medical outreach was organized as a pre services launch at the Dechi Health Trust Fund clinic. Dechi Health Trust Fund (DHTF) in partnership with Rural Health Mission Nigeria conducted a 2 day free medical outreach in Gembu and Kakara communities on the mambilla plateau 11th and 12 April 2019. DHTF is a community health foundation founded by Dr.Muhammad Ibrahim Saddiq established to provide a sustainable system to improve access to quality healthcare, referral and hospital care services for the population of mambilla plateau.

About 10 health workers including doctors, Nurses, health educationists and Laboratory Technicians participated in the medical mission supported by the Nigeria Muslim Forum (NMF) UK.

Over 300 patients received free health services in Kakara and Gembu respectively. The services includes; free consultation and treatment, free screening for hepatitis, HIV, Blood pressure and Blood sugar for diabetes. Dr. Muktar a UK based Nigeria surgeon and Dr. Pallotti Phoebe a professor of Midwifery from Nottingham University UK also participated in the medical outreach. This outreach was planned to launch the community social health insurance for the community.

Rural Health Mission Nigeria and Dechi Health Trust Fund plans to setup Community Based Social Health Insurance Program in Gembu and Kakara communities. This services will be accessed at the newly established Dechi Health Trust Fund Clinic in Gembu town. The clinic is established to provide basic health services to beneficiaries with very low financial burden.

Community Based Health Insurance (CBHI) is a non-profit Social Health Insurance Programme for a cohesive group of households/individuals or occupation based groups, formed on the basis of the ethics of mutual aid and the collective pooling of health risks, in which members take part in its management.

One of the biggest problem of this scheme is the availability of service provision which Rural Health Mission Nigeria is been partnered to provide the required personnel through its health volunteer corp program to ensure the take off and smooth running of this primary health facilities.
