October 15 is set aside by the world health organization to encourage sensitize people on the importance of hand washing.

RHEMN on this day visited Tudun Wada primary school in Gombe to educate the kids on the importance of hand washing as well as the steps involved in hand washing.

Over 400 children were present at the event. After teaching hand washing to the pupils, volunteers demonstrated the basic steps in hand washing and few pupils also had the opportunity to demonstrate.

RHEMN Commemorates World Environmental Health Day

The theme for 2018 world environmental health day is “Global Food Safety and Sustainability”. RHEMN in collaboration with INEX LTD and Gombe State Environmental Protection Agency (GOSEPA) held environmental sanitation at public park in Gombe.

During the event the RHEMN public awareness team also held lectures with food vendors and food handlers within the park to educate them on the importance of water and food hygiene. They were also trained on hand washing techniques to prevent food contamination.

RHEMN had launched monthly environmental sanitation exercise in public places including; motor parks, markets, schools, abattoirs etc. RHEMN took this intervention to because of the recent cholera outbreak in the state affecting several communities in Deba, Dukku and Gombe metropolis.

This intervention is expected to reduce the disease risk by 50% according to research.

RHEMN hopes to continue the monthly sanitation exercise with the target of reaching all public places in 12 months. Other things include; renovation of public toilets, provision of recycle dustbins and community awareness campaigns and town hall meetings.

RHEMN Contains Cholera Epidemic in Gombe

RHEMN Volunteers moved to contain Cholera epidemic in Kagarawal community, Gombe Northeast Nigeria. The outbreak was reported on Tuesday September 25 and at today about 44 patients has been treated and discharged, 1 dead and 2 still in isolation for observation.

In the last 2 months Cholera epidemic has been reported in Deba LGA of Gombe State.

RHEMN had deployed Volunteers to provide basic care, mass community education, contact tracing and house-to-house fumigation to curtail further spread.

RHEMN and Gombe state epidemiology team also embarked on households fumigation of all affected communities within Kagarawal
