In early 2023, Rural Health Mission Nigeria (RHEMN) embarked on an ambitious project: to build a hospital in the heart of Chana, a remote community with limited access to healthcare. This vision was fueled by World Connect, a New York-based nonprofit that recognized the community’s need for quality healthcare services. With financial support from World Connect and the dedication of local and international partners, the foundation for Chana’s hospital was laid.

The journey was not without challenges. The team had to contend with logistical issues, including transporting materials over rough terrain. Despite these obstacles, the construction continued steadily, guided by RHEMN’s commitment to create a facility that could truly serve the people of Chana.

In March 2024, the nine-bed hospital was finally completed. It included a dedicated laboratory, pharmacy, labor room, and male and female wards. The facility was fully equipped with 24/7 solar-powered electricity, ensuring reliable power for critical operations. A clean water supply and high-speed internet connection were also installed, enabling virtual consultations through telemedicine. This innovation allowed patients in Chana to access healthcare services and specialized consultations beyond the walls of their local clinic.

By May 2024, the hospital was open for services, staffed by a team of dedicated professionals—midwives, nurses, community health workers, and laboratory technicians. Together, they provided comprehensive care to the community, from routine checkups to emergency support. On October 31, 2024, the Chana Community Hospital was officially commissioned, symbolizing a new era for healthcare in the region. With reliable power, skilled personnel, and telemedicine capabilities, Chana’s hospital now stands as a beacon of progress and a testament to the power of collaboration.
